Today is a Gift Be Thankful
Well it is Thankful Thursday again and we are already into the month of December. Just where did this year go? Are you recovered yet from the Thanksgiving Day celebrations? I know many of you were busy cooking, entertaining and hopefully enjoying special family and friend get-togethers over the holiday weekend. We were definitely all abuzz around here from Wednesday of last week all the way through Sunday with all kinds of family events.
What a blessing is was to us to have been given the chance to share such wonderful family time together with loved ones. It’s like the old saying goes, “Today is a gift. That’s why it is called the present.” I am paraphrasing here but I will show the entire quote at the end of this Thankful Thursday post because I think it is beautiful and worth sharing with you if you’ve never heard it before. I am also adding my own bit of “Thankful Thursdayness” to the phrase too. Since Today is a Gift Be Thankful that you have been given another day to enjoy all that life has to offer.
We should take advantage of the days that we are given and not take them for granted. Time passes by so quickly; it is important to remember and treasure every precious moment we have.
Yes I know that each of us have pressures that besiege us. We are in the hustle bustle holiday time which can become worrisome for some people. That doesn’t mean that we should be any less grateful however. We are set on this Earth for such a relatively short time; so why not make the most of it?
I just have to share the lyrics of a song that has been stuck in my head lately because the words illustrate so well my point in this post.
“This is the day that the Lord hath made,
We will Rejoice and Be Glad in it.”
Those keywords “Rejoice and Be Glad” keep resonating in my mind. I’m not above feeling overwhelmed and let down at times. I sometimes struggle with negativity too. But I don’t dwell on the negative for long because really what does that solve? Negativity just breeds more negativity. Who wants to be around a old grumpy somebody anyway? Not me; so I try to stay as positive about things as possible.
I truly keep singing this little song in my head (and sometimes out loud depending on where I am) until I get a smile back on my face. It doesn’t take long and it doesn’t take a lot of effort either. Want to know why? Because I believe it’s true.
I am rejoicing and glad that I have been given another day here. One more chance to spend precious time with those I care about most. A new day full of challenges and inspirations…yippee! See how easy it is to think Today is a Gift and be Thankful for it? Well it can be if you choose for it to be. And that my friends, is really up to you.
Now for the entire quote I promised earlier. You will see why I waited to make my other points before this revelation…tick tock good people.
“The clock is running.
Make the most of today.
Time waits for no man.
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
Today is a gift. That’s why it is called the present.”
