Taking Time To Reflect

What a wonderful gift nature is. I was reminded of that as I sat in my garden circle listening to the birds chirping, gazing at the pretty spring blossoms and feeling the cool breeze blow across my face. Yes, I actually was Taking Time To Reflect on a few things in my life. The old adage goes something like, “you need to stop and smell the roses” and you know what? I did just that.

Feelings of Gratitude

I went over to my lovely rose bushes and smelled each one that was blooming. It was nice. Unfortunately I sometimes tend to take for granted all the beauty that surrounds me. Not on that day. In that moment I was taking in all wonders that I have been neglecting to notice. I began thinking about how grateful I am to have my collected senses about me to be able to enjoy these things. I have much to be thankful for and on this day of reflection I reminded myself of that too. My feelings of gratitude were overwhelming, but in a good way.

Pleasurable Moments

I love walking out to my vegetable garden and mini orchard, checking on the progress of the plants. It’s incredible what a difference a day can make. The fruit trees are baring luscious treasures that are getting bigger by the minute. I can’t wait to sink my teeth into one of the juicy peaches, pears or apples that should be ready in just a few weeks.

The veggies too are coming of age. I already have picked some tender squash and zucchini that cook up nicely or are great to the taste buds even raw. The rest of the plants are coming along nicely and the rows are so clean and neat thanks to our tiller that has saved us some backbreaking work. It won’t be long until the real harvesting will begin.

So much thought and care was put in this delectable garden spot which is evidenced by the progress each plant has made. I appreciate all the labor that my father-in-law has put into to all of this. He is the farmer and has taught my husband and myself so much about the wonders of gardening. Not just from the standpoint of the outcomes, which is sure to be healthfully bountiful; it is more than just that. Working side by side with “Dad” has brought each of us closer by sharing a common bond and a “growing” sense of mutual respect and admiration. These are precious moments that I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to be a part of.

Sense and Sensitivity

How are your senses working now? Can you picture what I have described here? Did you smell that rose along with me? All too often we can get caught up in being in such a hurry to get things done that we forget about what matters most. The small things in life can bring so much pleasure if we just allow them to.

So now why don’t you take some time to reflect on the beauty that surrounds you? It’s therapeutic, take it from me. I now have a renewed appreciation for the gift of nature around me. Excuse me as I sit back again in my garden circle and reflect some more while taking in all the wonders that this beautiful life has to offer.
