She Dreamed a Dream and It Came True

I have a little twist to Thankful Thursday for you today. I watched a television program this week; I’m not even sure which channel it was on. This was an inspiring story about an amazing woman. It left me feeling grateful for what she had accomplished. She Dreamed a Dream and It Came True. I am thankful for having seen this program because it renewed in me a sense of hope and inspiration to reach out and continue fulfilling my own hopes and aspirations no matter what obstacles I may face.

This is a tale about a woman who never gave up on accomplishing her goal. She knew what she wanted and did not let the “nay-Sayers” stand in her way. People Magazine has named her one of “The Most Intriguing People of 2009”. She has captured the hearts of many because she is so real, a regular person, just like the rest of us and she made her dreams come true like so many of us would like to do.

Of course I am talking about the incredibly talented Susan Boyle whose claim to fame captured the world by surprise when she entered a contest on Britain’s version of ‘American Idol’, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’. The program I watched was “I Dreamed a Dream – The Susan Boyle Story”. She even caught the usually hyper-critical Simon Cowell off guard in her audition for the show. It was the first time I think the man had ever been humbled and was in awe of a performance. He made a promise to her and although she didn’t end up winning the competition she has far surpassed what was originally expected of her.

Susan’s debut album/cd – “I Dreamed a Dream” at the end of only two weeks having hit the market has reached:
Susan Boyle - I Dreamed a Dream

•    Triple Platinum – Australia
•    Double Platinum – UK
•    Platinum – US & Canada

What an amazing feat! All of this happened because she never stopped believing in her dream. She is a living testament to the human spirit. In my opinion Susan is awe-inspiring not just for her angelic sounding voice but also for what she has done for so many that she may not even realize.

Many people can sing and sing well, but her story captivates us for more than just her vocal abilities. It is about conquering our inner demons that want to hold us back from seeking out our true callings in life. Susan is a performer of insurmountable talent and yes virtue. She gives to us the listeners an avenue to pursue our own hopes for the future. While we all may not have the same type of gifts that Susan has; we each have other means of fulfilling our own destinies.

The point is here that Susan has inspired me to continue to on my own personal journey of reaching my goals and for that I am eternally grateful. She Dreamed a Dream and It Came True; I am certain that I will accomplish my dreams in my own unique way.

What are your dreams?
