category is titled “Gratitude and Personal Growth”. I’ve decided to share with you grateful moments weekly by adding my thoughts on Thankful Thursday’s. Today’s post for Thankful Thursday is Practice Gratitude.
Over the coming weeks I will be adding a new post each Thankful Thursday. With the holidays fast approaching what better time of year is there to be thinking about how to Practice Gratitude.
It has crossed my mind a lot lately about what I am truly grateful for. Believe me there are many things in my life that give me reason to be thankful. I am blessed with a loving and caring husband who shares my own hopes and dreams for our future. We have healthy and happy children and grandchildren that we get to share our lives and time with. I am so thankful for our other family and friends that we are close with. It is the people in my life that I am most grateful for.
Saying that I am grateful for these wonderful people is but just one example of a way to practice gratitude. For some this is not such an easy task. I know how easy it is to get caught up with feeling overwhelmed with things that life may throw at us. It is hard to act appreciative about things when negative thoughts are prevailing.

In her book titled, The Language of Letting Go, author Melody Beattie says this, “Gratitude turns negative energy into positive energy. There is no situation or circumstance so small or large that it is not susceptible to gratitude’s power. We can start with who we are and what we have today, apply gratitude then let it work its magic.
Say thank you until you mean it. If you say it long enough, you will believe it.”
I try to live by those thoughts every day. I just keep “practicing gratitude” so that it sinks in and I can continue my day with a smile on my face and a happy heart. Perhaps this can work for you too. Why not give it a try yourself?
You may recognize Melody’s name as she is the well known author of the popular self-help book, Codependent No More. Her books have been very helpful for many people for years. I have enjoyed reading both of these books.
In fact my own copy of The Language of Letting Go is well worn as I refer back to it on many occasions. I often use this as part of my morning ritual since it is written in a daily meditation style. When I first get up in the morning I like my “quiet time” to reflect and prepare for the day. This book has given me a lot of inspiration for starting my days off on a positive note. I am grateful for finding these books and what the author has to share. Wow, would you look at that? There’s another example of how to practice gratitude. Hey, I think this idea is really beginning to click with me.
It has been stated that putting thoughts down in writing is one way make them more powerful than just the thought alone. Sharing what we are grateful for with others not only makes us feel better, but could also become an inspiration for those around us.
Sharing these positive energy boosters could be just what the doctor ordered for those in need of a lift in spirit. We can Practice Gratitude as a way for us to connect and grow in order to have a more abundant life.
So now tell me, what are you Thankful for this Thursday? I would love you to share your ideas for ways to Practice Gratitude. Drop me a line and let me know some of the things that you have to be grateful for in your life.
I can see where this idea could quickly become habitual. Actually I think that would be a very good thing indeed. I know that I will continue with this process of how to Practice Gratitude. It has already put things in a good light for me starting out today. Why don’t you join in too?
