Looking To Laugh

Looking to Laugh is an article about Humor and how to bring more of it into our daily lives. Laughter – we need it! Women, like me, say they want laughter and fun in our lives. It’s therapeutic. It brings out endorphins which make us feel good. That in itself is a positive. So why not laugh a little each day. Funny things do happen all around us everyday if we just keep an eye out for them. Sometimes, usually at the best time, funny things happen when we least expect it. For instance, just the other day I got a “jolting” surprise giggle at my home.

To give you a little background knowledge I first need to tell you about the band of wandering chickens that love to parade through our yard. What? Wandering chickens you might ask? I know, even that is kind of funny in itself. Not your everyday sight in New York City but we are in the country out here as you may have guessed. Seriously though, (pun intended of course) we do have several roosters and hens that for whatever reason in their little chicken minds love to come and visit us. Unless chickens are kept in a coop, which for some reason our neighbors who own the chickens don’t have or use, then the chickens are allowed to run free, and they do… straight to our yard.

Getting back to the story, I was outside enjoying the sunshine after some really frigid days. I’d been picking up yard debris and although I could hear that the chickens were around somewhere I could not see them. Well just as I started around to the front of the house, the big-daddy rooster was coming around back. Then WHAM! We had come to a face to beak meeting. I’m not sure who jumped higher, me or the rooster but tree limbs and feathers flew into the air. He took off out of the yard in a bolting flee cackling all the way leaving me doubled over in laughter to my surprise and wishing I would have had a video to capture the whole thing.

So you see funny things do happen when you least expect it. That laugh left me feeling rejuvenated and I finished the rest of my work with a smile on my face.

Laughter is just plain good for the body and soul. We women know this. Most of us crave it. Even when you are having a bad day a smile and a laugh can change your whole mood and outlook on things.

Now how can we bring more humor into our homes? Well you could sit down in front of the TV to watch your favorite sitcom or rent a comedy movie. Nothing wrong with that, I do that a lot too. Why not try something new? Ask your family to share some funny things that have happened in their lives lately. It could be a joke or story, an observation or experience they had encountered and laughed about.
This is a great activity for family time. It will serve three purposes – opening some lines of communication, building relationships and a wonderful way to share some laughs.

Give it a try, you just might enjoy yourself.
