Cheap Family Fun
There is a little twist to this most current post on Cheap Family Fun. Usually the author of the posts on Women’s Home Activities are written by me, the Grammie of our bunch; but not today. This post was written by my husband or as our grandkids refers to him, Poppy. So without further ado I bring to you:
Cheap Family Fun

Last weekend the kids and grandkids came over to spend the day. My son had bought a cheap kite for his girls to fly. My youngest granddaughter kept saying, “Let’s go fly a kite”. That is all it took. So off we went. I, my son, the 4 yr. old granddaughter and our little 18 month old grandson went out to the field to have some outdoor family fun.
Meanwhile our oldest granddaughter, who is 9, stayed inside with Grammie, her Mom and Aunt because she loves the family fun cooking time that she knew that Grammie would have her helping with.
Anyway, back outside the 4 yr. old could hardly wait to fly that kite. The little boy didn’t know what to expect but both he and his cousin were wide-eyed and excited about what was to come. They couldn’t stop laughing as they watched me and my son try to get the kite up. My son would run to try to get the kite flying but the wind did just not want to cooperate that day.
It really didn’t matter much to either of the kids though. They would take off after the tail of the kite chasing it and giggling all the way. The little girl is faster than her cousin but his little legs tried as hard as he could to keep up with her.
When the kite finally did start to fly, you should have seen their faces. They were in total awe of the event. It made me think just how caught up we grownups get in day to day activities that we forget how to laugh and enjoy things. Family bonding time doesn’t cost a dime, but the moments spent together are riches for a lifetime.
My granddaughter would run and my little grandson even though he is not quite 2 years old would chase right after her. I laughed so hard watching the two of them my sides were splitting. He would look around just to make sure where Poppy was then he would be back to full blast trying to keep up with his cousin.
This was a family fun activity that didn’t cost but a few dollars for a cheap kite. Those family activities are like little treasures. The memories of the laughter, hugs and kisses no amount of money can buy.
My wife and I try to think up all the family fun ideas we can while these precious grandkids are young. We love our family get-togethers and try as often as we can to have them. We know our sweet bundles won’t be little forever but while they are we want to share in as much wonder, laughter and love as we can from them. Set aside time for activities for your kids or grandkids. The rewards you will receive are far more than you realize. As we’ve said there are easy ways to have Cheap Family Fun. Why not start some of your own now?
